Handcrafted from English ash, this sculptural bar stool combines traditional woodworking techniques with contemporary furniture design. The seat is hand-carved to create a tactile ripple texture inspired by the movement of water across a pond, giving the surface visual depth while retaining comfort in use. The carved form is designed to encourage interaction through touch, changing character as light moves across the surface throughout the day.

The timber is finished using an ancient Japanese scorching technique, enhancing the grain pattern and creating a deeper contrast within the ash. This process also helps unify the tones of the timber while emphasising the natural figure and texture created through carving. A stainless steel footrest provides durability and contrasts with the organic surface of the wood.

Designed as both functional seating and sculptural furniture, the piece reflects a broader interest in natural geometry, texture, and handcrafted detail.  Each seat is individually shaped and finished by hand, meaning no two pieces are exactly the same.
